National Camera Day

Today is National Camera Day, so I decided to post something a little different because of the day itself and because of my love for all things photography.

Something you may not know about me is that I love Polaroids. The reason I format and edit my photos for this blog in the way that I do is because of my fascination with Polaroid cameras. Sometimes the color is blown out,  contrasty (it’s kind of a word), or muted but that is an artistic choice and completely intentional (I promise).

For those of you who are like-minded, or for those of you who would like to get into Polaroid photography, I wanted to mention a couple of awesome things that you may want to check out.

First is a documentary called, Time Zero. It is about the last year of Polaroid Film and has won several independent accolades and film festival awards. It is available to watch on both iTunes and Netflix. The documentary covers the history of Polaroid, various people’s fascination with Polaroid, and what happens now that Polaroid is virtually extinct.

The second amazing thing I wanted to mention, piggy-backs on the above mentioned documentary. Impossible is a company that picked up where Polaroid left off, and virtually recreated and revived the almost lost art of instant photography. The process of how this all came to be is also covered in the Time Zero documentary. They are the only people in the world that make original format instant film. The film comes in a variety of formats; b&w, color, as well as some very cool collaboration films.

If you have a love for Polaroid, or photography in general you will definitely want to check out these two artistic treasures. If you want to geek-out on Polaroid or photography, or simply pick my brain about getting into photography or instant film please leave a comment below ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy National Photography Day!!!

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product

One of my favorite hair products that I have repeatedly bought time and time again because of how great it makes my hair feel, is It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product. I use this as a repairing product as well as a detangler after every hair washing session. The smell is wonderful and a little product goes a long way.

The product description states that it is formulated to deliver 10 benefits, including:

  • Repairing dry and damaged hair
  • Adds shine
  • Detangles
  • Controls frizziness
  • Seals and protects hair color
  • Prevents split ends
  • Stops hair breakage
  • Silkiness
  • Enhances natural body
  • Flat iron spray and thermal protection

I can attest that this product does indeed deliver on the myriad of benefits mentioned above and can be considered nothing short of a miracle product.

There are five options available for the leave-in product, which are geared toward various hair types or needs, they include:

  • The Original
  • Plus Keratin
  • For Blondes
  • Lite
  • Silk Express

Of the five different varieties of the product, I have tried three. The original in the blue bottle (pictured above) is by far my favorite. In my opinion it not only smells the best of the options I have tried, but it seems to work best for my hair.

Pricing for the 4 ounce bottle runs about $11 – $18 depending on where you purchase it from. It’s a bit pricey considering the size, but this stuff is worth it and as I mentioned previously, you don’t need to use much. Ulta and Target usually have all the varieties available, if you are feeling adventurous ๐Ÿ˜‰

Give it a try!

DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner

Materials:

  • 2 cups of warm water
  • 1 tablespoon of dish soap (I use Dawn)
  • 1 tablespoon of distilled white vinegar
  • A glass

Directions:

Mix the above ingredients into a glass. I start with the warm water, so I don’t get an overwhelming amount of bubbles in the final mixture.

Once mixed, add your makeup brushes (brush-side down obviously) and let sit. I usually let mine sit for about 20 minutes.

At the end of the 20 minutes, I swirl around each individual brush in the mixture before removing it from the glass. Next I place each brush under a running faucet (warm water).

After each brush is fully rinsed and the water is running clear, I lay them down on a clean towel or washcloth to let air dry.

I’ve used this process time and time again. It works great and is very inexpensive.

Give it a try and let me know what you think or if you have a brush cleaner that you love and adore, please share below!

Happy cleaning!! ๐Ÿค—

NYX Banana HD Finishing Powder

NYX knocks it out of the park again with their HD Finishing Powders!! After having such a long-standing commitment to my Lancรดme Dual Finish powder, it was really hard for me to try another powder. How was I possibly going to like something quite as much as my current powder?!

Well, over the last week I have been slowly using the NYX HD Finishing Powder in shade Banana (using the baking method) while doing my makeup, and I LOVE it! I am very pale, and I was extremely worried that I may literally be the shade of a banana after using this, but it couldn’t have looked more flattering. The finish was soft matte and the texture didn’t feel cakey or thick.

The NYX website describes this powder as a lightweight translucent finishing powder that helps soften the appearance of fine lines and pores and that this silky pressed powder has a fresh matte finish. Based on my experiences using it – it lives up to its description.

The powder comes in a variety of three shades: Mint Green, Banana, and Translucent White. With a price point of $10, I would strongly suggest trying this little treasure out.

Powder on! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Derma Rolling

Or more commonly known as micro needling involves rolling a derma roller, which has hundreds of tiny needles, over the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production.

Many use it on their face and/or lips to reduce wrinkles and acne scars, to diminish stretch marks, and to plump lips. The tiny punctures made by derma roller activates the skins natural healing mechanisms and acts as a catalyst to rejuvenate and renew skin.

So far, I have used my derma roller twice. While I can not speak on the effectiveness quite yet, I can comment on the pain and/or uncomfortability of regular use.

On a scale of 1 to 10 on the pain scale… It is definitely no higher than a 1. You will feel a slight irritation after use, but again it is minimal. I would equate it to the feeling your skin has when you’ve got a bit too much sun.

One huge recommendation would be to only use this treatment in the evening. Your face or body with be noticeably pinkened after use. No blood, just again like you had a little too much sun.

I do have to say that the process is kind of relaxing and therapeutic in a lot of ways, and I will continue the treatments so I can speak to their effectiveness. But to those of you who are reluctant to try because of pain or disfigurement, be rest assured that you don’t need those fears any longer.

If there is anyone out there that has had more long term use of using a derma roller and you’d like to share your experiences and/or tips, please feel free to comment below.
