Sheet Masks

Where have these been all my life? Seriously, where?! I (like most girls, I think) view skincare as a necessity. However, it’s one of those things that you just “have to” do. I can’t tell you how many masks, creams, moisturizers, etc. I have in my cupboard.. But there’s A LOT. I try with the best of my ability to use them all, but let’s face it (no pun intended) no one has time for all of that.

So I’ve begun investing in sheet masks. All I can say is that these are debatably just shy of the eighth wonder of the world, or maybe the best thing since Velcro or sliced bread.

I’ve tried several versions of the sheet mask, ranging in price from approximately $1-$7. There are sheets masks that I’ve seen that are in a higher price bracket as well, but I have not tried those out as of yet. Based on the sheet masks that I have tried, it does seem like you get what you pay for. The $6-$7 range masks are on softer towelettes and they really seem to have a lasting moisturizing effect on your skin. Also they just seem to fit the face a bit better than their inexpensive counterparts.

I still purchase the cheaper sheet masks on occasion just to save a few dollars, but in a perfect world where money grew on trees, (yes, please!) I’d be buying the better quality ones all the time.

Look of the Day – California Sweater Weather

It’s true, the “weather” we have in California can’t really be considered weather, but on occasion it is necessary to wear a sweater.

Kat Von D – Tattoo Liner

Just recently named the #1 eyeliner at Sephora, and for good reason! No joke, this is the holy grail of eyeliners, hands down! I’ve been a repeat user of Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner since I first tried it a few years ago. Nothing I have used before or since has even come close to the quality and precision of what this liner can do. It is the blackest of blacks, long-wearing, smudge proof, and the list of compliments go on and on. If you have yet to try this eyeliner, do yourself a favor. What are you waiting for, the verdict is in!

Argyle

In honor of Argyle Day, I chose to share with you one of my favorite legwear companies. Hue has so many great leggings, and hosiery options. I have been wearing their tights and leggings for several years. They always have a great color and pattern selections that reflect current fashion trends. Their products are of great quality and built to last.

NYX Baked Blushes!

Amazing!! I recently picked up a few shades of the NYX Baked Blushes. I’ve been playing and experimenting with them over the last week. They remind me a lot of the MAC Mineralize Blushes but for a less expensive price tag; although the MAC does come in a larger compact. Both are fantastic; however if you are looking to try several different shades, like I did, go with the NYX. Both have a lightweight, sheer coverage and have a very nice shimmer to them. The NYX Baked Blushes are also made to be used with either a wet or dry application, which give you dramatically different color. The dry application goes on as a light pigment and the wet application is more dramatic and pigmented. So you are really get getting two blushes in one….Bargain!!

DIY Military Jacket

The military look is pretty popular right now, and can be seen in varying degrees of detailing and embellishment from designer to designer. Obviously in most cases, the more detail, the higher the price tag. Ralph Lauren’s Denim and Supply line is one of my favorites right now. Intricate gold trim and velvety textures adorn many beautiful jackets and outerwear options. But for those of you on a budget or who just like to do-it-yourself, there is a simple and affordable alternative.

First you’ll need your canvas. Here are a few options for jackets from Forever 21:

Forever 21 – Cotton Utility Jacket

Forever 21 – Buttoned Pocket Utility Jacket

Forever 21 – Cotton Twill Jacket

Once you’ve decided on a jacket, you’ll need to figure out what you want to decorate it with. Common things seen in many military style jackets are epaulettes, patchwork, gold and red trim, stars, eagles, flags, embroidery, etc.  The first thing I started with was the epaulettes (these will go on the shoulders of your jacket). There a several types, but for my jacket I went with red braided epaulettes (seen above). I bought mine off of eBay for approximately $4-$5. You can scroll through several types simply by searching “epaulettes” or clicking the link above.

Next you’ll need some patches. Again, I went to eBay for these as well. I searched “military patches,” again you will have several pages to scroll through. I bought mine with the intention to place them on the arms of the jacket.

Last (although I chose to skip it for my jacket) you may want to buy some gold star-shaped buttons for the front breast-pocket area of the jacket. These can be found at Jo-Ann’s, eBay, Michael’s or any other craft or sewing store you prefer.

Once you have all your supplies you can begin the creative process. All the patches I bought were iron-on, so attaching them was super easy. The epaulettes were sewed by hand (also very easy) because they were slightly too thick for my sewing machine to handle. Or if you want the super-duper easy method, just buy some fabric glue and start gluing away until your little heart’s desire. *If using glue, just be aware of how your glue washes… dry-cleaning may be necessary to keep your jacket looking great.

Vintage Jewelry

I love, love, love finding vintage jewelry, specifically necklaces. Most times I search out these treasures on eBay, such as the one pictured. But if you are lucky enough to live somewhere that has nicer thrift or antique stores and/or in a neighborhood where estate sales are plentiful, then you can often find some beautiful jewelry there as well. The advantage to adding a few vintage pieces to your accessory collection is that of originality. Most likely, no one else will own what you have. If you like standing out fashionably, this is for you. Another advantage is quality. Vintage jewelry was built to last. The only disadvantage is that of having to sift through the rubble to find your treasure. It can be time-consuming and tedious. But anything worth having is worth waiting for, right?! 😉
